ONLY YOU HOTEL, MADRID

only you padrino

Lázaro Rosa Violán’s work is a beautiful blend of classic pieces composed with modern verve. The look is thoughtful and deliberate, yet each space resonates with an effortless nature. The layered spaces he designs are filled with eclectic pieces, bold patterns, rich colors, and art from a cross-section of periods, all composed with brilliant panache. Lázaro has been at the top of my list of favorite interior designers for several years now. His work inspires me beyond measure. I’ve blogged about him several times before and even had the chance to meet him when Fabian and I visited Barcelona a few summers ago. Lázaro was gracious enough to invite us for a visit to his ultra chic atelier which you’ve probably seen all over Pinterest as well as in the pages of AD España. What I admire most about his work is that it is all truly his. Every element in every space he works on is designed by Lázaro himself—every chair, every table, every light fixture or lamp, every piece of art. The man is a true artist. Over the weekend, I decided to look at his website for some inspiration and was elated to see that it had been updated with photos of recently completed projects including the Only You Hotel in Madrid.

Lázaro’s interiors are beautifully layered, with various styles blending together perfectly. The palettes he chooses are typically sophisticated and restrained, usually with one bold accent color. In the case of the Only You Hotel, the color of choice is navy blue, which I absolutely love! Throughout the hotel, housed in a 19th century mansion, navy blue is paired with crisp white and some chinoiserie accents. I have been craving another trip to Spain recently — it’s been nearly three years since our last visit and seeing these images is just amplifying my urge to book a ticket to Madrid right away!

SOMETHING FOR THE BUCKET LIST.

MOST PEOPLE GO OVERSEAS TO SEE THE COUNTRY OR CITY, TOUR AROUND AND TAKE IN THE CULTURE. BUT, IN THIS CASE, I JUST WANT TO GO TO ‘ONLY YOU‘ HOTEL IN MADRID, SPAIN. SO BEAUTIFUL, I DON’T SEE HOW ANYONE CAN PEEL THEMSELVES AWAY FROM THE CREATIVE SPACE TO GO OUTSIDE. UNLESS THEY CAN SMELL PAELLA.

Nicolas Ghesquière turned to Balenciaga’s archives for some of his looks for cruise — a collection that pushed the season in a wonderfully flamboyant direction. Voluminous skirts and shorts were paired with tops and coats that echoed the house’s signature egg shape, specifically the cream Ottoman Edition coat from 1967, while kimono-like shirts featured graphic elements, some which were inspired by Balenciaga’s 1961 painterly “bric” print. The full A-line skirts were worked in umbrella shapes and done in various silk blends, while the very voluptuous “double” shorts — inspired by famous Balenciaga client Mona von Bismarck who frequently wore shorts while gardening — were shown cuffed on the sides to reveal a silk twill boxer-style lining. Some looks were paired with paper-thin quilted leather jackets lined in linen and topped off with futuristic clear plastic visors to create a racy-sporty effect that Ghesquière dubbed “Sport Silk.” As for the accessories, there were leather boots and pumps with baroque wavy heels and bags in padded leather resembling car upholstery.
