“I first signed with a local agent in Kansas, but it would be that sort of situation where I’d email them and they’d get back to me three months later. So my Mum and I drove down to Los Angeles, which my parents had to take out a loan for – it was so expensive, and we shot a film with Vision LA – another model agency. Somehow Steven Meisel ended up seeing it and he then booked me for Vogue Italia – that was my first job. I remember it all so clearly, we were staying in this really run down hotel – there were actually bugs, and I got a phone call really early from Steven’s people. I ran to the laundry room and just screamed.”

editor street style|paris fashion week fall 2011

The Fall 2011 fashion shows have come to an end but we can still enjoy street style shots of the trendsetting fashion magazine editors and employees. Read on for some highlights from Paris.

Taylor Tomasi Hill, Style and Accessories director for Marie Claire, has been charming the Fashion Spot forums all month long with fun, quirky outfits that often showed her mixing and matching certain favorite pieces and accessories. In Paris, she once again wore her grey cow-adorned Burberry sweater, but she switched things up with a bright green and grey patterned Balenciaga mini skirt with a zig-zagging hem, thick grey tights, and grey booties. “The grey tights and shoes worn with that green-grey skirt are gorgeous!” declared Not Plain Jane.

Tomasi Hill rewore her fringed leather Isabel Marant mini and Christian Louboutin thigh-high suede boots in Paris with a Givenchy ski-chic turtleneck sweater. “I find this ski jumper with the Isabel Marant skirt a perfect match.” said lola rose. “Gotta love Taylor for rocking this kind of outfit!”

Christine Centenera, Fashion Editor for Harper’s Bazaar Australia, topped off her silky pajama-style Celine pants with a black blazer that didn’t go over so well with tFS forum posters. Centenera got points for wearing the eye-catching bottoms, but fika’s sentiment of “I love the pants but I don’t like how she matched them with that blazer,” matched the general consensus.

Giovanna Battaglia, Fashion Director for Vogue Gioiello and Vogue Pelle, also had a “this works, that doesn’t” moment in Paris. Her long silk floral-print Erdem dress was styled in a bohemian-chic manner and Battaglia accessorized with a brown belt and tassled bag, but the addition of a heavy fur stole around her neck added a clunky element that threw the whole look off. Liberty33r1bcommented: “Fantastic dress, but that fur around her neck ruined the outfit.” *ana* agreed, “Yeah the fur really wasn’t necessary. I’m in love with the rest of the look though!” she added. “I think it’s one of my favorites of Giovanna’s.”

Anna Dello Russo, Fashion Director at Large and Creative Consultant for Vogue Nippon, stayed true to her larger than life fashion aesthetic in Paris, stepping out in a head to toe shiny ensemble that consisted of a metallic pantsuit from Balmain’s Fall 2010 collection, a Miu Miu clutch, and Victoria Beckham aviator sunglasses. “Insane outfit as usual; she is so fun!” wroteFashionGuru1988. Later in the week, Dello Russo donned a Mary Katrantzou dress that contained a mix of prints, patterns, and colors. “I’m loving Anna’s Mary Katrantzou ensemble,” complimented Ziegfeld Girl. “I love the explosion of flowers and the different prints.” Label Basher was more focused on Dello Russo’s Mary Katrantzou by Christian Louboutin footwear. “Those ankle boots with the Mary Katrantzou outfit are WICKED. Must have,” she stated.

Géraline Saglio, Assistant Stylist for Vogue Paris, demonstrated her signature Parisian chic in slim black pants and a Givenchy leopard-print jacket that had forum members drooling. “I’m obsessed with this outfit,” wrote envogueforever. Ciao!Manhattan was also a fan. “She looks amazing, love the jacket,” she said.

Shala Monroque, Editor-at-Large for Pop Magazine, turned heads in slim, high-waisted white pants, a yellow top, Prada shoes, and funky, tropical-themed jewelry. “This woman is ridiculously chic,” wrote loladonna.

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana usually offer a pretty obvious thematic cue with their invitation. This time around, however, the playfully uneven font on the invite read more like a puzzle. Well, there was no need to read much into it — the collection revolved around one thing: letters. Could we buy a vowel, please?

The runway started out upbeat enough, set to a disco mash-up of Madonna’s “Vogue” and Duck Sauce’s “Barbara Streisand” tracks. And the first girls out did strike a rather fun tone in clothes covered in graphic black-and-white block lettering, which worked a casual street vibe, early Nineties-style. Sweaters, either cropped or oversize, were extra slouchy while jackets came generously cut and mannish, with big, broad shoulders. The designers sent out plenty of leggings and tight, bandeau skirts and dresses, too, and folded in a layering motif — sweatshirt over dress over swishy sheer skirt — that boosted the sporty urban feel. Ditto the heels du jour: wedge sneakers.

But Dolce and Gabbana also kept on (and on and on) with the alphabet theme and the lineup soon became one big typographical blur, especially when they switched from the two-tone graphics to a dizzying rainbow of florescent hues, done in sequins for evening. It was relentless. Ultimately, this was one collection that wasn’t exactly letter perfect.

emmanuelle alt|first french vogue cover

HOW do you choose who to put on your first Vogue cover as editor? “For me it was just a spontaneous decision,” new French editor Emmanuelle Alt told us today, confirming rumours that Gisele will be her first cover star. “There was no question.”

Alt’s first issue will arrive on newsstands in early March – the April issue. “She’s wearing Dolce & Gabbana and we got Ines and Vinoodh to shoot it in St Barts,” she added. “I hope you like it.”

This better be a good cover because alot is riding on this. I can’t wait. Even if the cover is bad, I’ll still buy it because it’s her first issue as editor and I’m sure it will be valuable in the late future ;)

anja y sus chicos|vogue espana

Featuring designs from Fendi, Emilio Pucci and Versace, model Anja Rubik shoots cover + editorial for the March edition of Vogue Spain. Surrounded by a trio of male models including Jon Kortajarena, Oriol Elcacho and Andres Velencoso, Anja turns up the heat in sexy dresses styled by fashion editor Belén Antolín in Alexi Lubomirski’s Anja Y Sus Chicos – Anja and the boys. The photography here if the picture with her in that white dress and the lights…this has got to be up there with one of my favourite editorials I have posted on my blog. Definitely bookmarking it for the future…and definitley buying Vogue Spain March 2011 Issue. Hope you enjoy looking at it as much as I did.
